New Assistant Professor to the Discovery Center

Assistant Professor Alberto Guffanti has just joined the Discovery Center. He brings with him a membership of the so-called NNPDF Collaboration, which is responsible delivering for some of the world's most reliable and accurate Parton Distribution Functions for use with LHC data.

Alberto Guffanti

Alberto Guffanti received his PhD in 2004 from the University of Parma in Italy. He has held postdoctoral positions at DESY, Zeuthen (2004-2005) and the University of Edinburgh (2005-2007) before taking up an appointment as 'Hochschulassistent' (Assistant Professor) at the University of Freiburg in October 2007.

Alberto's research focuses on Standard Model phenomenology, in particular QCD, at hadron colliders. His main interests are Parton Distriution Funtions, he is a member of the NNPDF collaboration, and computation of NLO QCD corrections to multi leg processes. At the Discovery Center Alberto will be responsible for establishing a group that combines accurate estimates for QCD 'background' to studies of physics beyond the Standard Model. Alberto expects to be hiring one-two PhD-students this coming fall, and hopes to bring in also one post-doc.
