Title: "Building IceCube at the South Pole"

Abstract: The creation the world's largest neutrino detector in a cubic kilometer of South Pole ice began over two decades ago. The idea to use ice to house the detector was novel and presented many challenges. The journey taken by the worldwide IceCube collaboration and the University of Wisconsin included challenges in logistics, distributed production of instrumentation, hot water drilling, and working in the harsh Antarctic environment. The road to successful construction completion, while not always smooth, was certainly exciting and rewarding.
