Yang Zhang moves from Cornell University to the Discovery Center

Having recently finished his PhD at Cornell University with distinguished physicist Henry Tye as advisor, Yang Zhang has received a prestigious 2-year post-doctoral fellowship from the Danish Council for Independent Research to work at the Discovery Center.

Yang Zhang has made himself known for work on both cosmology and theoretical particle physics. Most recently, his use of techniques originating in string theory for the calculation of amplitudes in gauge theories has received considerable attention. In this work, he and his advisor have shown how a set of group-theoretical structures can be shown to have an interesting interpretation in terms of string theory amplitudes. When taking the limit in which the strings describe particle physics, these structures remain.

Yang Zhang's work perfectly fits into the profile of the Discovery Center, bridging cosmology and particle physics.
