Discovery seminar, speaker Peter Christiansen

Quark Gluon Plasma: selected LHC results

The talk will introduce the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) and show some of its main characteristics as revealed in results from LHC at CERN: the QGP flows like a perfect fluid and quenches jets. In particular, the method used by the ALICE experiment to measure the particle composition produced by jets at high pT will be described in detail and the results will be shown. Finally, the question of QGP in small systems will be briefly discussed in the context of microscopic and macroscopic models.

In this way the speaker hopes to convince the audience that modern experimental QGP physics provides direct measurements of the quark and gluon dynamics that remains a challenge to extract theoretically from QCD.
