Title: Hidden symmetries of scattering amplitudes, old and new

Abstract: Physical systems with unexpected, or `hidden,’ symmetries have often played an important role in physics, beginning with the classical Kepler problem whose Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector ensures the closure of planetary orbits. I will argue that precisely the same symmetry underlies the integrability of a unique four-dimensional quantum field theory, a maximally supersymmetric cousin of the strong-interaction Yang-Mills theory that has been the focus of much recent work. When considering massive particles, the combination of the Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector with relativity yields a novel way to calculate its spectrum of Hydrogen-like bound states, with full account of relativistic corrections.
