Raymond and Beverly Sackler Distinguished Lecture

Speaker: Professor David Gross, UCSB

Title: A Century of Quantum Mechanics

Abstract:

Quantum Mechanics is approximately one hundred years old and has provento be the most successful theoretical framework in the history of physics. In this talk I review the present status of quantum mechanics and the remarkable success of quantum field theory, as demonstrated by the standard model of particle physics.

Finally I  discuss the challenges that we face in realizing the goal of unifying all the forces of nature including gravity.
